The future of Aboriginal outstations considered

The Northern Territory Minister for Central Australia has told a workshop that many remote outstations are home to mainly birds and lizards and the government can't continue to fund them.

About 70 people, many of them residents of the NT's 500 outstations, have attended the workshop in Alice Springs to discuss their future.

The government-appointed leader of discussions on the future of Aboriginal outstations in the Northern Territory says he hopes residents will present him with strong arguments for why they should be maintained.
Another Cape York Aboriginal council in far north Queensland has decided to appeal against a Supreme Court ruling that has shut down its canteen.
The NT Minister for Central Australia says the government can't continue to fund many remote outstations.
The Australian Crime Commission says its investigations into child abuse in Indigenous communities won't be hindered by a recent court ruling preventing it accessing a medical clinic's records.
Qld Health says there's no evidence many Indigenous people are moving to Mount Isa to escape the NT intervention.
