Behind the Scenes at the RSC

Book Box Whats So Good About Roald Dahl
Set in the garden of the country house where Dahl conceived many of his stories, the programs explore what makes his writing so successful and feature a variety of lively readings accompanied by Quentin Blake’s wonderful illustrations. This fascinating documentary analysis of Dahl’s life and work shows how he drew upon his experience and vivid imagination to create stories.


Books and Writing
Books and Writing is the foremost national literary program broadcast throughout Australia. It features in-depth discussions focusing on books, ideas and writing.


Boyer Lectures
The Boyer Lectures have been delivered by prominent Australians, selected by the ABC Board, for over 40 years. They have stimulated thought, discussion and debate in Australia on a wide range of subjects. The lectures showcase great minds examining key issues and values.


Classic Short Prose
The three short stories in this unit have been specially chosen to be read in one session. Each story is read by an outstanding actor and the programs include some biographical information on the author, along with suggestions for analysis.


Derrida - Deconstructing Vision
Jaques derrida gave a live webcast address on the 12th of August 1999. This site has soem material concerning the man and his work.


English Bites
English Bites is a television presentation and web site designed to help improve your English language skills. Every weekday we show a story and then help you understand the language that has been used in it. You can use the web site with or without watching the show because the web site explains all the stories in detail. Designed for Students of the English language in the Asia/Pacific region, English Bites website is increasingly being used by English students in schools in Australia and recent migrants wishing to improve their English skills in the privacy of their own home. This site is researched and written to an extremely high standard and we highly recommend it.

Inside Out
Inside Out is a series of bright, pacy, documentary-style programs focusing on the use of English language in various contexts and through different texts and for different purposes. It encourages students not only to develop a greater critical awareness of the way in which language works in many texts, but also seeks to motivate students to use this knowledge to create their own texts.


Lifelong Learning on Radio National
The complexity and diversity of modern life challenges us to understand the fuller context of issues and ideas. Lifelong Learning develops a theme over six to thirteen weeks, in an open, accessible manner, steadily building a big picture of the topic in question.
