Underworld figure Carl Williams has told a Melbourne court he will be cleared of involvement in the murder of drug dealer Mark Moran.

Williams was charged with the June 2000 murder of Moran yesterday.

Moran was shot several times in the chest outside his Aberfeldie home.

Williams appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court via a video link from Barwon prison.

During today's hearing, Williams told the magistrate the task force investigating Melbourne's underworld was corrupt and incompetent.

He told the court he looked forward to being vindicated and that an informer who would give evidence against him was a brutal rapist with more than 160 dishonesty convictions.

The magistrate did not respond but ordered Williams to face court again in April.
