Crash sparks Snowy Mountains Highway safety boost

Posted February 9, 2005 13:33:00

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has released details of plans to improve safety on the Snowy Mountains Highway at Adelong, in response to a fatal truck crash last month.

A 42-year-old Sydney man died when his truck careered into the Royal Hotel.

It is the third time the pub has been hit by a truck coming down the steep hill into Adelong.

After a meeting of representatives from the RTA, police and Tumut Shire Council, it has been decided to install a low gear section for heavy vehicles coming from the east into town.

More signs are planned to warn of the steep decline.
