Discounts given for landcare groups' insurance

Posted April 20, 2005 13:44:00

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) has negotiated a discount of almost 10 per cent on annual insurance fees for landcare groups.

More than three-quarters of the state's landcare groups are insured through the VFF's Farm Tree and Landcare Association.

This year premiums have dropped to $270 for public liability, personal accident and association's liability insurance.

The VFF's president, Paul Weller, says insurance premiums were becoming a strong disincentive for volunteer groups.

"We arranged this method of doing it a couple of years back and this year we were actually able to reduce the cost because of the performance that we've had over the last three years," he said.
