Man rescued after fall from lighthouse

Posted August 30, 2005 07:31:00

A man in his mid-20s has been rescued by helicopter after he fell from a lighthouse near Airey's Inlet on Victoria's coast, south-west of Melbourne, last night.

The man fell from the cliff around 7:00pm AEST and police used infra-red sensors to find him on the beach.

He is in a stable condition in the Alfred Hospital.

Senior Constable Wayne Wilson says rescue conditions were difficult.

"Due to the conditions down there we had to put the chopper down about 300 metres away and police and paramedics went to him and put him on a stretcher and we brought him back to Essendon Airport," he said.

"On the way back running into 90 kilometre hour winds so it made flying a little bit difficult as well."
