Acupuncture may relieve heartburn symptoms

Posted September 5, 2005 20:04:00

A recent study suggests heartburn can be treated through acupuncture.

Adelaide University associate professor Richard Holloway and a Chinese doctor say a stomach valve which controls stomach acid flow can be controlled by the alternate health practice.

Dr Holloway says about 30 per cent of the population suffers from heartburn at least twice a week.

"It's an incredibly common problem. In many patients it's not very troublesome but probably in 10 to 15 per of the population it's troublesome enough they'll take some medication for it," he said.
