Man arrested for 170kph 'wheelie'

Posted November 10, 2007 10:50:00

A 21-year-old Acacia Ridge man is to appear in court after he was clocked by police doing a wheel stand on his motorcycle at almost 170 kilometres per hour overnight.

Brisbane police intercepted the man after he was seen to accelerate away from them at 220kph.

Police say two officers were conducting laser speed enforcement activities on the Deagon Deviation, north of Brisbane, when they observed the man performing a wheel stand at 169kph in a 100kph zone.

They attempted to intercept him but the man accelerated away and was seen riding along the Houghton Highway bridge at 220kph in a 60kph zone.

He was intercepted a short time later on Elizabeth Avenue and is to appear in the Sandgate Magistrates Court next month charged with two counts of dangerous driving.
