New milestone for patient records

Posted November 25, 2007 13:04:00

The Royal Hobart Hospital's new digital system for storing patient records has reached a new milestone.

The hospital is entering about 12,000 records a day, and there are now more than 3-million entries.

The hospital's manager of patient information services, Mark Upton, says the system is potentially a lifesaver.

"Our clinical staff can actually be working in the community. They may actually be doing a home visit. They can use the virtual privacy network or VPN card connected to their laptop.

"They can plug in their mobile So they can now actually be at a patient's home and they can get actual live information straight in front of them on their laptop."
