Council highlights bushfire tourism impact

Mansfield council wants firefighting agencies to consider the impact of bushfires on tourism.
The north-east Victorian council made the submission to the Victorian parliamentary inquiry into bushfires at a hearing in Mansfield this week.
The inquiry will hold another public hearing in Mount Beauty tonight.
The council's chief executive officer, David Roff, says last summer's fires cut tourism to the shire by 90 per cent.
"It's obviously a major concern for us and part of the challenge is there may be a perception that there's smoke in the area and therefore fires, but the truth may be that the ... actual fire is some distance from the town, so I guess accurate information out to people that are thinking of coming here would be a good outcome," he said.
