Dozens feared trapped after fatal S Korea fire

Posted January 7, 2008 22:24:00

At least 22 people have died and about 30 more are feared trapped after a fire at a warehouse in South Korea.

Hundreds of firefighters have been called in to battle the blaze in Icheon, 80 kilometres south of the capital, Seoul.

Officials say the rescue operation has been slowed down as emergency crews try to deal with thick, toxic smoke.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but witnesses reported hearing explosions coming from the basement.
