Indian cricket officials say the tour of Australia will continue, after the sport's governing body stepped in to defuse a crisis over the second Test in Sydney.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will make a formal announcement after a meeting later tonight.

But BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has confirmed the board has made the decision to continue playing, and advised the team members at their Sydney hotel.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) bent to India's key demand by replacing Jamaican umpire Steve Bucknor with New Zealand's Billy Bowden for the third Test starting in Perth on January 16.

India had been demanding his sacking over a series of errors in the second Test, which Australia won by 122 runs.

The ICC also decided to appoint a code of conduct commissioner to adjudicate on India's appeal against a ban on spinner Harbhajan Singh for alleged racist remarks against Andrew Symonds.
