Newbery has double success at diving champs

Sydney and Athens Olympian Robert Newbery made a successful return to the sport at the Australian Open Championships at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre on Friday.

Newbery won the three-metre synchronised event with Scott Robertson and the 10m event with Matthew Helm.

Melissa Wu and Bree Cole took out the gold in the women's 10-metre synchronised competition.

In the open women's one-metre springboard, former Olympic gymnast-turned-diver, Alex Croak, took out the gold.

First place in the men's one-metre event was Matthew Mitcham.
