Indonesian driver killed in eight-storey car plunge: reports

Posted January 22, 2008 22:12:00

A driver was killed after his vehicle crashed through the wall of a car park in the Indonesian capital, plunging eight stories and smashing into a passing car, reports said.

The man, who had worked for more than 10 years as a driver, lost control of the car as he tried to reverse in an office building parking lot, the state run Antara news agency reported. The occupants of the car on the ground were uninjured.

"I was shocked when I saw the car plunge," a witness who was working on the eighth floor was quoted as saying by Antara.

The city authorities had already warned the building's management that the wall could not withstand a car crash, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo was quoted as saying by Detikcom news website.

A family of three was killed last year when their car crashed through a car park wall at a shopping mall, falling six storeys.
