Three dead, 17 injured in Philippine blast: official

Posted January 28, 2008 22:34:00

Three people were killed and at least 17 injured Monday when an explosion tore through a row of apartments in a town near Manila, the municipal mayor said.

Investigators suspect at least one unit was being used to store dynamite, Nonong Ricafrente, the mayor of Rosario town, said over ABS-CBN television.

Several apartments were damaged in the blast. The identities of the victims were not immediately known.

Dynamite explosions are common accidents in towns near Manila that face Manila Bay where fishermen use dynamite to fish.
