Ceremonies mark Holocaust Memorial Day

Posted January 28, 2008 23:00:00

Ceremonies have been taking place across Europe to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945.

Survivors of Auschwitz held their commemoration in the rubble of the gas chambers in Poland, where more than one million people, mostly Jews, were put to death by the Nazis.

In Britain, members of the Muslim Council ended a boycott to join representatives from other faiths at a ceremony in Liverpool.
