Melbourne police still searching for tyre slashers

Posted February 6, 2008 23:17:00

Melbourne police are still looking for those who slashed the tyres on more than 24 cars at Preston last night.

The cars were parked near a hotel in Bell Street, and in surrounding streets.

Police believe more cars may have been targeted and are urging anyone whose tyres have been damaged to contact them.

Acting Sergeant Matt Bull says the damage is substantial.

"They would have used a very sharp implement to damage the tyres," he said.

"Pushing a knife through tyres on a car is quite difficult.

"Basically from what I understand it it's two to three tyres on every car, which would range in value depending on the tyre and the car, obviously."
