Cabbies to strike over operation licensing rules

Around 500 taxi drivers are planning to stop work on Wednesday morning, to protest against licensing arrangements that allow peak period taxis to operate from 5:00am to 9:00am.

The Taxi Industry Forum of Western Australia says the legislation leaves them out of pocket.

The forum says Peak Period Taxis have cheaper licences and should only be allowed to operate at time of high demand.

The forum will meet with representatives from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure tomorrow afternoon to discuss the proposed industrial action.
