Adelaide cabbies warn of further industrial action

Posted June 1, 2008 15:06:00

The Adelaide Cab Drivers Association (ACDA) says it is not ruling out more industrial action in its push for better driver safety.

The ACDA escalated its dispute with the South Australia Government when a cab driver was bashed in the city two weeks ago.

The Government yesterday announced a $300,000 program to set up three secure taxi ranks in the city's east end at Glenelg and Port Augusta.

The new ranks will have security cameras, a concierge and security guard.

But ACDA spokesman Art Dreimanis says it is not enough to stop drivers from protesting.

"Our sources tell me that it's unlikely that the other important issues are going to be addressed and that might require further action by the drivers," he said.

"I think there ... probably be a little bit more action if the Government doesn't pull its finger out and start to look at the real issues facing the industry."
