The Narrabri Shire Council has won its bid to press the New South Wales Government for a share of mining royalties.

The shires association's annual conference has agreed to lobby the Government to pay 10 per cent of the royalties it makes from mining to shires affected by the industry.

Mayor George Seville says it is a better result than he expected because council was asking the association to lobby for just 3 per cent.

"These royalties amount to a large amount of money that goes straight to the Treasury and the councils felt that we're entitled to some of the money that comes out of the shire," he said.

"The industry does have an effect on our shire in the way of roads and bridges with the extra traffic on them."
