Mansfield council plans rates rise

Posted June 5, 2008 13:25:00

The Mansfield council plans to increase rates by 9 per cent in the next financial year.

The council's draft budget has allocated $4 million for capital works, and significant funding for environmental initiatives.

There will also be a increase in municipal charges.

The council's chief executive officer, David Roff, says the proposed rate rise is reasonable.

"We think that's responsible, as we said it's in line with previous predictions or slightly under," he said.

"We think it compares favourably with other councils in the region.

"We believe it's fair and responsible given the job we need to do."
