Group to lobby Fed Govt for rail service return

Posted June 9, 2008 12:20:00

The group lobbying for a return of rail services between Casino and Murwillumbah says it is not surprised the issue was overlooked in the New South Wales Budget.

Basil Cameron from Trains On Our Tacks (TOOT) says he is nonetheless bitterly disappointed by the decision.

Mr Cameron says rising petrol prices mean a commuter rail service is more vital than ever before.

He says TOOT will now turn its attention to the Federal Government.

"The MP for Page talked a lot about fighting for rail services prior to the federal election and we do need to see more from her and we need to see more from the Federal Government," he said.

"We need to see more of the overcoming of the blame game, the rhetoric that was put about before the election."
