Govt pushes ahead with water fluoridation

Posted June 16, 2008 13:28:00

The Department of Human Services is moving ahead with adding fluoride to drinking water supplies in the Castlemaine area.

It says affected households will be notified, before fluoridation starts.

The acting chief health officer, Dr Chrissie Pickin, says water fluoridation is safe and effective, and medically proven to protect teeth against decay.

She says about four children have a general anaesthetic for treatment of tooth decay at the Mount Alexander Hospital each month.
