A new fund will help university researchers develop their work into business opportunities and products.

The Trans-Tasman Commercialisation Fund is a joint initiative of Australian and New Zealand universities.

Adelaide University, the University of SA and Flinders University are among those to benefit, along with Monash University in Victoria.

Superannuation fund Westscheme is investing $30 million over five years in the fund.

The SA and Victorian Governments each are giving $1.25 million.

Rob Chalmers, of Adelaide Research and Innovation at Adelaide University, says the fund will help boost research efforts.

"We think that it demonstrates quite clearly that South Australia is on the national and indeed international map as far as developing new technologies is concerned," he said.
