Charges laid eight years after murder

Posted June 18, 2008 07:37:00

The homicide squad has charged a second man over a fatal shooting on the New South Wales far north coast more than eight years ago.

Victor Roderick Elliot was attacked by two men as he left a building site at Chinderah, near Tweed Heads, on May 26, 2000.

The 50-year-old died after being shot several times. Strike Force Rathmullen was established to investigate his death.

A dark green four-wheel drive, believed to have been used by the men, was found in bushland two days later.

Last night, detectives arrested a 34-year-old man at Tweed Heads Police Station.

The Banora Point man was charged with several offences, including being an accessory before the fact to murder.

He has been refused bail and will appear in Murwillumbah Local Court later today.

A second man was convicted of Mr Elliot's murder last year.
