Qantas plane makes emergency landing in Weipa

Posted June 20, 2008 18:23:00

A QantasLink flight en route from the Torres Strait to Cairns made an emergency landing at Weipa early this afternoon.

Weipa police say the aircraft from Horn Island landed without incident just after midday after the starboard engine malfunctioned.

An aircraft engineer from Cairns has been flown to the Cape York mining town to carry out repairs.

Airport staff say 56 passengers will stay overnight in Weipa before leaving on a flight tomorrow.
