Merimbula-Pambula rugby league club faces players shortage

Posted June 23, 2008 10:45:00

Another rugby league club in south-east New South Wales is feeling the pressure.

The Merimbula-Pambula club has been forced to forfeit or defer games over the next few weeks as it tries to overcome a shortage of players.

Group 16 says that the Merimbula Pambula club has been hit with injuries but says it hopes to have its senior side back on the field next month.

Earlier this month, the Narooma club was forced to go into recess because of difficulties with player numbers.

Yesterday, there was only one game played in the Group 16 competition when the Moruya Sharks pulled off the upset of the season so far in defeating the top of the ladder, Cooma. It was the Stallions' first loss, going down to the Moruya side 36-28.

In Aussie Rules on Saturday, the Pambula Panthers bounced back after a loss last week to account for the Merimbula Diggers, 15.9 (99) to 8.5 (53).

In other matches, Tathra proved too strong for Eden and Batemans Bay got the points against Narooma.
