Springborg rejects banning smacking children

Queensland Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg says the law should not defend abusive parents, but that smacking should not be banned.
The State Government may remove a provision of the law which offers "discipline" as a defence if parents are accused of going too far.
Mr Springborg says any changes must not outlaw smacking.
"Of course I've smacked my children and I suspect most parents out there would have done that," he said.
"No one subscribes to a view that a parent should be beating their children, and if people are misusing the law, then the law should be tightened.
"But any law that actually takes away the right of a parent to properly smack their child is something that I would find very difficult to support.
"Absolutely I was disciplined by my parents with a good smack and I'm a better person for it too."
