WA families will soon be able to have children through a surrogate mother, with the Upper House supporting the bulk of the Government's legislation.

All MPs have been given a conscience vote on the Government's legislation which will enable couples, unable to have a child, to have a baby through a surrogate mother.

Currently it is not permitted in Western Australia, forcing many families to head east for the necessary IVF procedures.

The Upper House has finished debating the bill and has made a number of changes which the Government has agreed to support.

The birth mother will need to be over 25 and must have already given birth to one child.

There will be a final vote on the legislation in the Upper House tomorrow.

It is expected the bill will pass easily.
