Preparation work begins for new Narrabri hospital

Posted June 26, 2008 12:00:00

Work will start today to on preparatory work for the new Narrabri hospital.

It is a week later than planned.

The first stage of construction will include the demolition of several buildings and the construction of a temporary car park.

Narrabri's Health service manager Sharon Simpson says the site clean-up will remove virtually all non-essential buildings before the contract is let to build the new complex.

"What we'll be left with will be our current hospital [and our staff accommodation ] because we need to maintain the current services while we're in construction," she said.

"We need to ensure we actually have places for [those] staff who need accommodation to stay on site."
