Councillor delays brothel decision

Posted June 30, 2008 11:44:00

A Shepparton councillor has gained support for a delay on a decision about a brothel in the city.

Councillors were to vote on a permit extension for the brothel on Tuesday, but Sondrae Johnson called a meeting on Friday to delay it.

An article in the Shepparton newspaper on Thursday said she still owed money to the brothel applicant, after taking him to court to try to stop the brothel.

Councillor Johnson disputes the report, and says she now needs legal advice to ensure she does not have a conflict of interest when voting on the permit.

"I need to go back and get more legal advice, proper legal advice on the latest development, I had no time for that, and now I will have time to do that, so that when I vote on this, I will be doing so, or not as advised," she said.
