Green light for Agnes Water desal plant

Posted July 3, 2008 11:18:00

The Gladstone Regional Council says a desalination plant will go ahead for Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 after it trimmed about $4 million from the cost of the project.

The former Miriam Vale council's project was in jeopardy when the Queensland Government declined to contribute more funding, to address a shortfall.

The director of commercial and community services, Cale Dendle, says $1.5 million will be saved by building a different style of sewage treatment process.

"It will still deliver the same solutions that we were chasing from the outset," he said.

"We have been able to identify with along side the contractor some capital savings in the project, which means some things won't look as right as they might have externally and other things, but it will still do the job."
