New route mooted for Aberdeen powerline

Posted July 7, 2008 13:41:00

A new route for a 66,000 volt powerline through Aberdeen has been proposed after concerns about previous plans affecting the health and appearance of the local community.

Energy Australia's Allyn Hammonet says the latest proposal would see the powerlines go through Gordon Street and out to Blairmore Lane, on the western side of the town.

He says community concerns were raised about other proposed routes which would have seen the powerlines near recreational grounds and schools, but that has now been changed.

"We appreciate that there was some concerns with some of those initial proposals, and look, thanks to the cooperation of some of the land-holders who have allowed us to obtain easements which will enable us to get out to Blairmore Lane, we're able to now investigate and we look like we're able to successfully build right out to Blairmore Lane, well west of the group of citizens who were most concerned," he said.
