A 27-year-old woman has given birth to a baby girl on the back seat of a car on the side of the Mitchell Highway.
The woman and her family left Cobar to drive to the Dubbo Hospital in the early hours of this morning, but could not make it in time.
A manager at the ambulance operations centre in Dubbo, Tracy Riley, took the phone call from the woman's partner.
She says she dispatched an ambulance to the parked car near Nevertire, but the baby was born before it arrived.
"We talked her through the contractions and what was happening when they could see part of the baby and what to do when the baby was out," she said.
"It was nice to be part of their baby coming into the world."
