Council to buy back marina land

Tweed Shire Council is set to buy back land that was earmarked for a controversial marina development.

The council sold the riverfront land at Chinderah in June 2005 to allow for a 29-berth marina.

The contract of sale provided an option for the council to buy back the land if the marina was not built within a designated time frame.

Local protests and court challenges over a bigger development have delayed construction and the council will now proceed to take the land back.
