Mayor laments latest skate park vandal attack

Posted July 11, 2008 12:37:00

Rockhampton Mayor Brad Carter has expressed disappointment at the latest vandalism attack in the city.

The North Rockhampton Skate Park has been damaged for the fifth time in a year, and there has been recent vandalism at the South Rockhampton and Nerimbera cemeteries.

In the latest incident, three 20-metre lights and a switchboard have been damaged, which the Mayor says will cost about $2,500 to fix.

Power has had to be disconnected as a safety precaution.

Councillor Carter says the facilities are provided through rates income, and ratepayers also have to foot the bill for repairs.

Meanwhile, there will be skate competitions held tomorrow to celebrate the official opening of a new skate park at Victoria Park.
