Developers of a natural gas pipeline between Queensland and Hunter in New South Wales, through the north-west, say they are talking to gas producers in the region about the possibility of tapping into the large reserves in the Pilliga.

The $850 million pipeline will travel through Moree, Gunnedah, and Murrurundi to Newcastle.

Senior executives from Queensland Hunter Gas Pipeline briefed the Narrabri shire council and local business operators yesterday and they will be in Gunnedah today.

General manager Bob Otjen says the pipeline has been one of the reasons there has been increased exploration in the region.

"We have had some low level discussions with potential gas producers from the regions and are eager to move their gas," he said.
