Council considers bus shelter smoking ban

Posted July 18, 2008 10:13:00

Nambucca Shire residents could soon face smoking bans in parts of the region.

The local council is considering a draft policy that would ban smoking near children's playgrounds and council buildings, as well as within 10 metres of bus shelters.

Councillor Paula Flack says there is a strong feeling that bus shelters should be smoke free.

"Bus shelters are havens for young people and children are being exposed to passive smoke," she said.

"[For] the other areas we will wait and see what the public say, it is not home and hosed yet but I think it is worthwhile introducing some discussion and getting feedback from the public."
