Lack of support blamed for community radio closure

Posted July 18, 2008 13:43:00

The transmitter for Cobar's community radio station in central New South Wales will be switched off on Monday.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has decided not to renew 2HOT FM's licence because it does not meet the minimum requirements for local programming.

For the past two years the only local program has been five hours on a Sunday afternoon presented by Station Manager, Werner Muhletahler.

He will host his final show this weekend, and says it is disappointing more locals were not interested in taking part.

"The community was just not prepared to give us the support," he said.

"In support I mean that we couldn't find enough volunteers who were prepared to make a commitment to work at the station unpaid and therefore we didn't go into the concept of a community radio station."
