Documentary gives insight into Aboriginal shearers

Posted July 22, 2008 10:22:00

There is hope a documentary about Aboriginal sheep shearers near Bourke will be picked up by a television network.

University lecturer Lorina Barker shot the film in May at Weilmoringle where she grew up.

The eight-minute piece will premiere in Bourke on Saturday, and will also be shown in Sydney in August.

Ms Barker says the documentary provides a glimpse into the lives of her shearing family.

"I'd really love to be able to have the opportunity to expand the three hours of footage to make it into a larger documentary, to give these men the opportunity to share their stories," she said.
