Agriculture outlook to remain stable: Bureau

Posted July 22, 2008 11:36:00

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) says Western Australia's agriculture outlook is expected to remain fairly unchanged into the future.

The bureau says there is increasing international demand for food crops, particularly in the Asian market, as well as a demand for grain stocks in Europe and the United States.

ABARE spokesperson Jammie Penm says he expects fuel and fertiliser costs to remain high.

"Over the medium term there could be some relief but at this stage [it's] too early to say that price pressure will ease significantly," he said.
