Thornton residents concerned over crime surge

Maitland MP Frank Terenzini says police can only start working towards curbing crime if incidents are reported.
Around 100 Thornton residents attended a meeting last night to raise concerns about increased crime and anti-social behaviour in the suburb.
Mr Terenzini says police figures do not reflect the problem.
"The statistics show that there's not a big problem," he said.
"Now I know as a local member, constituents have come to me and said there's a problem in the park.
"If the people are going to take notice of what Constable Coffey said, the community should get together and make sure that they report everything they see."
Resident Philip Penfold says he agrees more residents should be reporting what they see.
"Absolutely, and look that was the driving force behind the couple who were the victims of assault in Thornton that had approached me," he said.
"Their driving message behind their letterbox drop was purely make sure you report things.
"If you don't report statistics, you can't blame the police or Mr Terenzini for not acting."
