State Government backs shearer training

Posted July 24, 2008 13:21:00

The Victorian Government has announced it will provide $80,000 towards a training facility for sheep shearers which is being built at Edenhope.

The decision to build the centre was made after lobbying by local schools and the Edenhope Pastoral and Agricultural Society.

The parliamentary secretary for Regional Development, Kaye Darveniza, says the centre will be fully accredited to train shearers, which will help fill a skills gap.

"We know that we need shearers in that region and we know that we have young people that are interested in gaining the skills and being able to work as shearers," she said.
