Greg Norman, who shrugged off his 53 years to put himself within reach of a sensational British Open victory last weekend, found life on the seniors tour a lot harder overnight.

The Australian carded a 4-over-par 75 in the first round of the British Senior Open Championship at Royal Troon, seven shots behind joint leaders Bruce Vaughan and Eduardo Romero.

Norman eventually finished third at Royal Birkdale on Sunday after falling off the pace set by eventual winner Padraig Harrington.
