Rudd rejects calls for NT funding inquiry

Posted July 25, 2008 09:22:00

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has ruled out a fresh independent inquiry into the way the Northern Territory Government spends Commonwealth grants.

The Territory Government has been accused of mis-spending Federal Government funding allocated towards providing services for the Territory's Indigenous and regional population.

Various groups and politicians are calling for an independent investigation.

Mr Rudd says the spending of public funds by each state and territory is sufficiently monitored.

"I have absolutely no basis for concluding at all that the Northern Territory Government is doing anything other than the right thing when it comes to the use of public funds for investment in Indigenous communities," he said.
