Serial conman feared back at Sydney Airport

Posted July 25, 2008 09:33:00

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are looking for a man, believed to be serial fraudster Barry John Faulkner, who is conning people at Sydney Airport.

Faulkner has a history of posing as a pilot and has also pretended to be a doctor and a member of The Monkees rock band.

He has served time in jail and once appeared on Australia's Most Wanted.

The AFP say a conman is approaching people at the airport, pretending to work for an airport-based company and offering them unclaimed imported goods at discounted prices.

They say the man offered to buy goods, including a luxury motorbike, perfume and watches, from auctions of unclaimed goods at the airport.

In one recent case, a victim handed over $3,000 cash.

Police say the conman offered his victims what looked like official paperwork.

The AFP are working with New South Wales Police on the case.

People who believe they have been targeted by the conman are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
