V8 Supercars race planning starts in Townsville

The detailed planning for next year's V8 Supercars race in Townsville has begun, with officials inspecting key sites late yesterday.
V8 Supercars Australia says it has a template or a mudmap for similar events and needs to fine-tune areas such as staffing, security and amenities.
Spokesman Cole Hitchcock says residents should start to see heavy equipment moving around the site within the next month or so but traffic disruptions should be minimal and residents will be kept informed of developments.
"I think you'll find in the next month or two they'll start seeing some work happening in terms of some heavy machinery and equipment floating in and out and doing various things along the way," he said.
"Work will certainly start on the pit complex in the next couple of months without doubt so they're the first things that people will physically see, but these sorts of things don't preclude us from doing the rest of the event planning."
