MP threatens 'serious action' over petrol prices

The Minister Assisting the Premier in north Queensland has threatened to take petrol companies to the Federal Petrol Commissioner if prices in Townsville are not immediately reduced.
Thuringowa MP Craig Wallace says fuel prices in Townsville have been stuck at $1.56 a litre, even though the cost of oil in Singapore dropped dramatically two weeks ago.
He says he will not stand back and watch the people of North Queensland get ripped off at the bowser.
"I think oil companies are very quick to put up the petrol prices when the price overseas rises, but they're really slow at dropping them," he said.
"That's not good enough. There are a lot of families suffering out there through high petrol prices, so I'm calling on those fuel companies that are making record profits to drop their petrol prices in Townsville and north Queensland now."
He says he will have no choice but to take serious action if prices are not dropped immediately.
"I'll be keeping a really close eye on these petrol companies," he said.
"If they continue to rip off consumers I'll be making a complaint direct to the Federal Petrol Commissioner to make sure we get those prices down.
"Those prices have fallen overseas, they're really quick to raise prices when they go up overseas, so let's pass these reductions onto consumers now."
