Clare prepares to host Squash Open

Posted July 25, 2008 11:09:00

The SA town of Clare is preparing to welcome some of the world's best squash players as it hosts the Australian Squash Open next week.

The event was hosted in Clare last year and it was the first time it was held outside a capital city.

The development manager for Squash Australia, Des Panizza, says there are many advantages to holding the event in the country.

"I think the players enjoy getting away from it, a lot of them come from overseas and they play tournaments all the time and most of those are in big cities," he said.

"Getting out in the country has the advantage of a creating a nice little social atmosphere.

"Obviously it's good for the country - it's bringing players and spectators up to the country, so it's a win-win situation."
