The Liberal party says it will provide funding to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of $68 million over five years if it wins the next state election.

The State Government was criticised for allocating $2 million to the service in last month's budget, despite the Royal Flying Doctor Service's much-publicised funding shortages.

The Liberal leader Troy Buswell and Opposition health spokesman Kim Hames made the announcement in Geraldton this morning.

Dr Hames says the funding figure was reached in a recently-commissioned report that was ignored by the Minister for Health, Jim McGinty.

"We are announcing today the full funding of the 68 million dollar package over five years, that was put together by his own health department and the Royal Flying Doctors Service," he said.

"Two million dollars is just a pittance for an organisation that does such a fantastic job, and that wasn't just for the Royal Flying Doctors Service, it was shared between them and St John, and the Assisted Travel Scheme."
